In a recent speech Elon Musk ‘warns we only have ‘a 5 to 10% chance’ of preventing killers robots from destroying humanity’. Don’t know about you, but we don’t like these odds. An interesting (and disturbing) comment from Mr. Musk, as his perspective on this subject is that of an ‘insider’. Some say that the machines have already won, as our civilization is totally dependent and controlled by the ‘machines’ right now. It seems that we spend most of our time trying to ‘out-smart’ the machines in order to get what we want done.
Imagine having to outsmart ‘Killer Robots’ instead of our desktop computers and mobile devices. Especially if the odds are at best 10% that we can do that. So, if an insider like Elon Musk is publicly saying there’s a 90-95% chance humanity is going to be wiped out by ‘Killer Robots’, WHY is the establishment racing to develop and deploy ‘Killer Robots’? There is a disconnect about this. Something does not add up, plain and simple. Either these types of statements are put out to implant fear into the public, or they are a warning of things to come, statements coming from guilt about the projects they’re involved with. Which is it?
Here are some quotes from the article by Shivali Best on the Elon Musk speech;
“Musk was giving a talk to employees at one of his companies, Neuralink, which is working on ways to implant technology into our brains to create mind-computer interfaces, according to Rolling Stone. He didn’t hold back on his predictions about making AI safe, saying there was ‘maybe a five to 10 per cent chance of success”
“His latest claims follow a warning he made in July that regulation of artificial intelligence is needed because it’s a ‘fundamental risk to the existence of human civilisation.’ The billionaire said regulations will stop humanity from being outsmarted by computers, or ‘deep intelligence in the network’, that can start wars by manipulating information. Governments must have a better understanding of artificial intelligence technology’s rapid evolution in order to fully comprehend the risks, he said”
